What determines quality and cost of down comforters? Construction, fill power, feather quality, thread count and comforter size are components considered where value is determined.

Construction: Quality comforters are constructed with a baffle wall. A baffle wall is strips of fabric sewn vertically inside each square of your comforter, creating many three dimensional boxes. In these boxes, feathers have sufficient room to loft and trap air for a weightless thermal insulation.

Luxy Down Bed Set Fill Power refers to how much down fill in your comforter for different levels of warmth. More down fill = more down warmth.

Feather Quality: Manufacturers construct with various quality and different percentages of down feather fill verses other feather fill. Look for a comforter with 75% or more white down fill.

Thread Count refers to the number of threads per square inch of your cotton cover. A higher thread count is a tighter weave of fabric that will keep impurities out while keeping the good stuff in. A thread count of at least 200 will provide a softness and durability you can appreciate.

Sizes: Comforters are made in all standard bed sizes: twin, full, queen, king, and cal king.

After I purchase my down, how should I care for it?

  1. Purchase a comforter cover, also known as a duvet cover to protect your comforter for years on end. With this duvet protection, laundering of your comforter only three to five years is sufficient.
  2. Many home washing machines are too small and the built in agitator adds unnecessary wear so have your comforter professionally cleaned every three to five years. However, remove and launder your duvet cover when cleaning bed linens.
  3. When making your bed, fluff your comforter to lift and loft the feathers.
  4. For a seasonal change or when not in use, store your comforter in a breathable bag.
